MacSabbath’s Ten Year Anniversary Tour plays the Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado August 15th 2024

My favorite band of all time is Black Sabbath. I had heard of MacSabbath but knew little about them. So when I was asked to cover their show, I jumped at the chance.

But this evening started out with a different sound from the Tejon Street Corner Thieves from Colorado Springs, Colorado. How about a little Outlaw Alt-Folk, Trashgrass and Outlaw Blues. The three piece band consisted of Mikey Schweitzer on the upright bass, Eric Owen on guitar and vocals and Connor O’Neal lead vocals, banjo, and sitting on the suitcase bass drum. Yes, you read that right, the “suitcase bass drum”. The best way to describe it is, look at the picture in the photo gallery.

Right away the crowd took to the music and started moving. When I was done photographing the first three songs, I sat back and listened to the music and watched the crowd and listened to Connor talking to the crowd in between songs. As I sat there thoroughly enjoying the music and everything that was going on, I came up with how I was going to describe the scene in front of me.

“To me, this was old fashioned, down home, ass kicking country music that made you want to get up and sing and dance”! What a way to start a night of music, because things were going to get a little weird, in a good way.

I had heard of MacSabbath but knew a little about them. I was about to get an education about the band. It will help you put together the names and faces of the band looking at the photo gallery. I present to you Ronald Osbourne lead vocals, on lead guitar, Slayer MacCheeze, on bass guitar, Grimalice (aka "I Can't Believe It's Not Butler!") and on drums, Catburglar (aka "Glamburglar" and "Peter Criss Cut Fries").

I needed a little help understanding more about the band, Wikipedia was very helpful so I will be quoting a little from them. I did know about the band as they played Black Sabbath's music with a twist on the lyrics and song titles involving fast food. “For example, the band's repertoire includes such parodies as "Pair-a-Buns" ("Paranoid"), "Frying Pan" ("Iron Man"), "Sweet Beef" ("Sweet Leaf"), "Never Say Diet" ("Never Say Die")”.

But MacSabbath lyrics take a look at the fast food industry in a not so positive way, citing health issues.

With that said, the real fun was watching and listening to them live. When you see the outfits they wear, you can wonder, how do they play their instruments? Seeing them up close they have made it easy for themselves. The energy level is high for the entire set. Moving about the stage, spraying water out into the crowd and interacting with each other. In other words, it was a very fun show and MacSabbath brought smiles and memories to everyone there, young and old. This was only the second stop on their tour so if you get the opportunity, this is a must see fun show.

On a personal note, I would like to thank Annie at Adrenaline pr for asking me to cover this show, it was a real treat!
